LitterThug

One man. One bucket. Keepin the world clean one piece at a time.

Meet the LitterThug

Nearly everyday, you can find him walking this stretch of Northern California roadway, his presence familiar to the regular surfers and beach goers alike. With a bucket in one hand and a grabber in the other, he moves with purpose down the road, through the dunes and up the beach, eyes scanning for what doesn't belong.

Always one to pick up trash from campsites to neighborhoods, this 5+ mile stretch of land transformed into his personal commitment more than 8 years ago after coming to the area. Rain or shine, weekday or weekend, he arrives without fanfare to remove the evidence of yesterday's visitors and illegal dumpers alike.

This site serves as a running log of all the trash that is collected by this dedicated individual. He knows the rhythms of this land intimately - where debris tends to collect after storms, which sections see the heaviest weekend traffic, how seasonal tourism and industry patterns change what he finds in his bag. While the majority comes from this single stretch, he will venture out to other locations around the area if he feels that his daily haul could be better.

Through his simple, steadfast presence, LitterThug reminds us that protecting our natural spaces doesn't always require grand gestures - sometimes it's just about showing up, day after day, and doing what needs to be done.
